BOARD OF TRUSTEES
The Board of Trustees of Marymount has the ultimate responsibility for the establishment of school policy, which is then implemented by the administration. In addition, the Board oversees the financial operations of the school and raises funds necessary for the school’s operation and future development. The Board is made up of members chosen from past and present parents, alumni, and persons whose expertise will be of value to the school. The Headmaster and the Presidents of the Marymount Parents’ Club serve as ex-officio members of the Board.

BOARD BIOGRAPHIES
Kristin Linehan is a parent of two Marymount students alums (Brenna ‘06 and John ‘09) and Erin, currently in eighth grade. Kristin has been an integral part of the Marymount community for 13 years.
Kristin served as a member of the Marymount Board for two years as the MPC representative. She then re-joined the board in ‘08, and is currently serving as President.
In addition to serving as MPC President for two years, Kristin has been a volunteer at Marymount in many other capacities. She has been a Room Parent for 10 years, co-chaired the Father Daughter Dance as well as the Mother Son Event, worked on the Back to School BBQ, Grandparents’ and Special Friends’ Day, Hot Lunch, Auction, and Scrip committees, and served as Chair of the Host Family Program, Buddy BBQ’s, and of the Teacher Appreciation committee.
Kristin graduated with a B.A. from UCSB and then obtained her Teaching Credential at UCLA. She then went on to teach first grade, which included teaching at UCLA’s Lab School, which mainstreamed hearing-impaired children, as well as teaching a bilingual class in Port Hueneme.
Kristin was involved in many philanthropic organizations before moving to Santa Barbara in 1995. These included volunteering at a shelter for abused children in the Long Beach area, serving as a volunteer for an organization that provided meals and home visits to senior citizens, and as an officer of the Junior League.
After coming to Santa Barbara she became involved with Storyteller Children’s Center, an organization that provides high-quality, tuition free childcare to homeless and at risk preschool children. She served as President of the Storyteller Board for many years, and also chaired their Gala event. Kristin is currently serving on Storyteller’s Capital Campaign Cabinet and is Chair of their Advisory Board. In addition, she is involved with National Charity League and The Women’s Fund of SB, and is also an active volunteer with the many sports in which her children participate.
Hilary Doubleday is currently head of Doubleday Design, a design consulting business. Her projects have ranged from designing homes and gardens to producing annual reports for an international, publicly traded company. Before starting her own business, Hilary Doubleday worked in various positions in the publishing industry. She has worked in staff positions and freelance as a producer, in new publications, as a writer, a photo editor, an art director and a stylist for Time Warner (Sunset Magazine), California Magazine, Conde Nast and numerous newspapers. She helped direct the style content in her staff positions at The Territory Ahead, USAopoly and Travelsmith. She also spent several years as a freelance photographer. In 2008 Hilary wrote, produced and published her first children’s book.
Hilary and her husband, Ned, moved to Santa Barbara, a city where Hilary’s family has resided for generations, to raise their children in Santa Barbara’s unique community. The Doubledays currently have two daughters attending Marymount of Santa Barbara. Hilary’s involvement in the Marymount community began as soon as her children were enrolled. She has served as chair of the Arts and Literacy Program, Room Parent, Book Fair Chair, on the Hot Lunch Committee and as a Team Captain for the Annual Fund. She initiated the school’s first Mother-Daughter Event and Chess Club, co-initiated and co-chaired the school’s cookbook and produced the Auction Projects for her daughters’ classes for several years. As a Board member at Marymount, Hilary Doubleday has been active on the Strategic Planning Committee, the Trustee Committee and the Development Committee. Hilary is currently serving as First Vice President and chairing the Head of School Search Committee.
Hilary Doubleday graduated in 1988 with a double major in English and Film from Scripps College. She also attended the Sorbonne in Paris which ignited a life-long love of travel, foreign languages and international experience, As a result of this passion, Hilary and her family have lived in and worked on three different continents: North America, South America (Chile) and, most recently, Europe (France.) While not abroad, Hilary has been active in the Santa Barbara community. She is a founding member of the Steering Committee for the Santa Barbara Museum of Art’s SMart Families, was an original member of Girls Incorporated’s 100 Committee, has been very active with Heal the Ocean and helped organize and initiate their first fundraisers, is a sustaining member of the Junior League, is a member of National Charity League, and has chaired an event for the Breast Cancer Resource Center.
Tom Brennan became an active member of the Marymount community when his son, Tommy, began Kindergarten. Initially, Tom was asked to help organize and launch the first Mustang Golf Invitational event that year which was followed by his serving as a member on the Annual Fund Committee. He remains involved with both programs. Tom was then asked to serve as the Marymount Parent Council as Co-President, the first Dad to lead the MPC. In addition to helping to coordinate and oversee approximately 25 MPC committees, Tom also served on Marymount’s Board of Trustees on behalf of the MPC and Marymount families. That year the MPC contributed record funds to Marymount which were primarily used to supplement various academic programs and also served as a catalyst for the funding and development of the Osprey Academy.
Tom Brennan was asked to join the Board of Trustees full-time for the following 2008-2009 school year. He currently serves as Second Vice President and is a member of the Board’s Finance Committee and Committee on Trustees. Tom remains active in various fundraising capacities.
Born and raised in New York, Tom graduated from Virginia Tech in 1987 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Finance prior to joining Salomon Inc’s Phibro division as a member of the firm’s proprietary commodity futures and options trading unit. When the Phibro division was wound down in 1990, Tom transitioned to executive search where, as a partner, he helped build, manage and found three of the search industry’s leading firms or boutiques. Primarily based in New York City, Tom has spent almost twenty years working with several of the industry’s largest investment banks, hedge funds and institutional asset management firms. Specializing in financial markets trading, capital markets and alternative asset portfolio management, Tom has worked with his clients in approximately 20 cities around the world throughout North America, Europe, Asia and Africa.
Tom remains active with many youth activities within the Santa Barbara community including coaching soccer (AYSO), basketball (Page Youth Center and Boys & Girls Club), baseball (SB PONY and YMCA) and supporting youth music (SB Bowl’s Educational Outreach Committee).
Kirk Borchardt is currently the Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Directors of Dealers Assurance Company, a property and casualty insurance company based in Columbus, Ohio, and its affiliated companies. A corporate attorney by trade, Kirk practiced law for 20 years with the Chicago-based firm of Lord Bissell and Brook, as both an associate and a partner in the firm’s Chicago office. After re-locating to Southern California, in 1998 Kirk became the managing partner of Lord Bissell and Brook’s Los Angeles office. His practice specialties include corporate transactions, international taxation, and government regulatory matters.
Kirk currently chairs the Development Committee and serves on the Strategic Planning Committee. Kirk and his wife, CeCe, were the co-Chairs of the Marymount Annual Fund Campaign for the 2008-2009 and the 2009-2010 school years. CeCe is also the Treasurer of the Marymount Parent Council.
Kirk received his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Western Illinois University (1978) and his Juris Doctorate degree from Syracuse University College of Law (1981).
Kirk was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He and CeCe moved to Santa Barbara in 1998. Their son, Ryan is in the 6th grade and their daughter, Riley is in the 2nd grade. Kirk has served as a coach in local youth baseball and soccer organizations for several years.

Don received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Gustavus Adolphus College and has a Masters in Business Administration and Finance from the University of Colorado. He is married to Cindy, a marvelous wife and mother and an active member of the Marymount community. They have two fantastic sons - Logan in the 5th grade and Quentin in the 3rd grade.
Kim Blankenhorn is the mother of three Marymount students, Ben in 4th grade, Grace in 3rd grade, and Lily in Kindergarten.
Since her children began at Marymount, Kim has been an active volunteer at the school. She has served as Room Parent, Class Captain for the Annual Fund, and has Chaired the Teacher Appreciation Committee, Father-Daughter Dance, and End-of-Year Beach Bash. She will Chair the Benefit Auction in April 2011.
Kim graduated with a B.A. from Duke University where she was a member of the Women’s Varsity Volleyball Team. She went on to work in finance at Montgomery Securities and Goldman Sachs and then in international marketing at Lionbridge Technologies.
Kim has been involved in many philanthropic activities since moving to Santa Barbara in 1999 with her husband, Chip. She was an Active Member of the Junior League of Santa Barbara from 2000-2008. At the JLSB, she served as President in 2006-07 and was a member of the Board of Directors for two years. She also Chaired the Blood and Bone Marrow Donor Drive, the Communications Committee and the Strategic Planning Committee. In addition, Kim has been involved with Storyteller Children’s Center, an organization that provides high-quality, tuition free childcare and education to homeless and at-risk preschool children. Kim Chaired the Storyteller Gala Fundraiser in 2008 and 2009, and is currently a member of the organization’s Board of Directors. Kim’s other community work includes volunteering for the smART Families Steering Committee at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art.
Besides her community and school activities, Kim enjoys hiking, playing tennis and volleyball, traveling with her family, and supporting her children in their numerous extra-curricular activities.
Lauren Carl Troiani is Vice Principal of architectural & graphic design firm Studio Progetti Inc. with partner and husband Louis Troiani. Their architectural practice’s primary emphasis is commercial retail shopping center design, including the design of environmental signage and graphics. Since 1991 their firm has amassed a vast portfolio of work across the nation and extending over the Atlantic to include projects in Europe.
College education was at Rice University, earning undergraduate and graduate degrees of Bachelor of Arts with a major in Architecture, and a Bachelor of Architecture. Working her way up to project manager, Lauren’s architectural experience includes office towers, hotels, jails, and retail centers. Lauren has worked in three of ‘the big five’ national architectural practices; Skidmore Owings and Merrill [SOM] in Chicago; Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum [HOK] in Los Angeles, and RTKL Associates Inc. in Los Angeles. She also worked in Arthur Erickson’s Beverly Hills office.
As a 1976 alumnus, Lauren credits Marymount for her love of learning, including a special year of 9th grade with Dolores Pollock’s first class!
Lauren serves as the Chair of Buildings & Grounds. Prior to Marymount, Lauren had served as Cultural Arts chair for six years at Roosevelt Elementary, where her push for program expansion was so heavily supported, the PTA increased original budgeted allowance five fold during her last three years there. She also is serving her 8th year as chair of the Cultural Arts Network of Santa Barbara County Schools.
Lauren and Louis returned to Santa Barbara 16 years ago. Every year for the past 15 years, they participate in their favorite Santa Barbara event, I Madonnari Italian Street Painting Festival held annually at the historic Santa Barbara Mission.
Parents of Marymount graduate Enzo ‘09 and Ava in the 7th grade, Lauren and Louis diligently support their kids in their extracurricular activities and sports, especially soccer.
Fr. Tom Elewaut is a veteran educator of more than 28 years. In addition to parish ministry he serves as a University supervisory for Loyola-Marymount University mentoring future school leaders and he also directs the Planned Giving program for Bishop García Diego High School, an independent co-educational Catholic college preparatory school in Santa Barbara.
Fr. Tom eared his undergraduate degree from CSULB (1978). He also holds a Masters degree in Education from Cal Poly, SLO (1983) and a Masters of Divinity from St. John’s Seminary, Camarillo (1985). He served as teacher, principal and president at St. Joseph High School in Santa Maria for twenty years and principal at Bishop Garcia Diego High School for eight years. He led SJHS to national recognition designated by the U.S. Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in 1992.
In 2008 Fr. Tom was one of six high school educators among 1213 Catholic high schools honored with the Catholic Secondary Education Award from the National Catholic Education Association for his distinguished leadership.
Born in Wisconsin and raised in Los Angeles, besides Church ministry on the weekends, Fr. Tom has served as a civilian chaplain for the United States Air Force. Presently he serves on the NCEA Executive Committee representing CA, HI, NV, and Guam and as a Visiting Committee Accreditation Chair for the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
Yvette Giller has been involved in the Marymount community for the past eleven years. Currently two of her children attend Marymount – Nathalie in the 8th grade and Andrew in the 5th grade. Her son Ben graduated from Marymount in 2009 and is now a student at SBHS. All three children started Marymount in kindergarten. Yvette has been active in many different MPC activities serving as Room Parent for six years, Room Parent Chair, Grandparents Day Chair, Book Fair Chair, MPC Board Secretary, Team Captain for the Annual Fund and currently as one of the Hot Lunch Chairs. A great passion has been implementing a new healthy hot lunch program for the students.
Yvette has also been active in the Santa Barbara community. Recently she chaired Storyteller Childrens Center’s $3.2 million Campaign for the Future in addition to serving on the Board of Directors of Storyteller. Yvette is also involved in National Charity League with her daughter, The Womens Fund of Santa Barbara and The Westmont Foundation Board of Directors.
Growing up in Santa Barbara, Yvette attended Laguna Blanca School and San Marcos High School. She then earned her B.A. in Communication with a minor in English from the University of California San Diego. Moving to San Francisco after graduation, Yvette met her husband Jeff and worked for many years in marketing and advertising for McCann Erickson and Sunset Magazine and Books. She and her husband then spent the next nine years working and living in Virginia, Maryland and France before returning to Santa Barbara in 1999 to raise their children.
Pete Mack is the director of residential life and an English teacher at Cate School in Carpinteria. He previously served as Cate’s director of admission and financial for six years. Prior to coming to Cate in 2000, Pete taught English and served in other administrative capacities at Portsmouth Abbey School–a Benedictine boarding school in Rhode Island–for ten years.
Pete received a B.A. in English from The College of Wooster in Ohio, and an M.A. in English from Middlebury College’s Bread Loaf School of English. He has been an E.E. Ford Fellow with the National Association of Independent Schools, and he is a presenter at the annual TABS (The Association of Boarding Schools) conference.
Pete lives with his wife, Renee –also a teacher at Cate–and his three children Theo, Emmett, and Reagan.
Ralph T. Iannelli is the Chief Executive Officer of Essex Capital Corporation an asset management firm located in Santa Barbara. Ralph returns to the Marymount Board this year having served as a trustee from 1999 to 2002 and Board Chair from 2002-2006. He and his wife Melissa and their three children Ralph, Grace and Olivia, all Marymount graduates, moved to Santa Barbara in 1993. In addition to the Marymount Board, Ralph serves on the board of Bishop Garcia High School, The Santa Barbara Police Activities League, the Montecito Education Foundation and a number of other not for profit boards. He serves on the boards on a number of companies of which he is an investor and enjoys investing in companies that support some of his philanthropic goals. One such company is givezooks.com, which enables nonprofits to maximize their potential to raise funds to support their charitable goals.
Ralph and Melissa are passionate about the education of our children and have a particular interest in helping schools identify those children who learn differently. They believe in providing teachers and schools with the tools to help all children learn and live up to their God given potential.
Ralph is a graduate of St. Josephs College and attended the University of Chicago. He teaches classes at UCSB and Loyola Marymount University.
Lisa Trosino Kanen has been an active member of the Marymount community for the past eight years. She has been a room parent for each of her children; served on the Scrip, Book Fair, and Auction committees; chaired the Room Parent and the Mother/Son Event Committees twice; and served as a Team Captain for the Annual Fund. As Scrip Committee chair for 3 years, Lisa was responsible for developing relationships with several local vendors to provide Marymount with discounted gift cards, raising an average of $9,000 each year to donate to the MPC. She is also an avid supporter of Marymount sports programs.
Lisa graduated from the University of California at Davis in 1982 with a BS in Nutrition Science. She attended the University of Southern California School of Medicine, earning her MD in 1986. Lisa has been practicing Emergency Medicine at Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital since 1992. She and her husband, Todd Kanen, a general surgeon, have been residents of Santa Barbara for 22 years. They have two children, Connor in 8th grade and Lana in 6th, both of whom have been at Marymount since kindergarten.
Kenneth Vadnais is an Electronic Engineer with Sensor Technology Engineering, a manufacturer of detection systems for nuclear interdiction. He grew up in Ojai, California, obtained a BS in Physics from UCSB, and an MS in Electronic Engineering from CALPOLY San Louis Obispo. Ken is serving on the Board’s Finance Committee and Development Committee. He and his wife Molora have lived in the Santa Barbara area since 1993. They have two children, twins Thomas and Hannah, who are in the fourth grade at Marymount.
Dan Williams has been the director of the Multimedia Arts and Design Academy at Santa Barbara High School since 1998. The “MAD” Academy is a computer arts focused school of 180 students, grades 10-12, that offers innovative, relevant and meaningful education. Academy students learn marketable skills and integrated academics in a civics minded community that fosters leadership skills. The Academy’s successful partnership with Santa Barbara City College provides MAD students with over 24 units of college credit and is widely regarded as a proven model for educational reform. His experience at creating successful partnerships and educational innovation within the larger public school system has been recognized at the state level through an appointment to statewide steering and technical assistance committees. The Multimedia Academy is primarily supported, financially, by the California Academy Foundation which was co-founded by Williams in 2000. The Multimedia Academy recently received a $1.5 million grant from the CA Department of Education to expand and modernize the MAD Academy.
Dan Williams earned a B.A. in Business and Economics at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, holds several teaching credentials, and a M.A. in Educational Administration from Azusa Pacific University. Dan is an avid world traveler, exploring educational models and opportunities to implement in the Academy. A former board member of the non-profit Firefighter’s Alliance in Santa Barbara, Dan is dedicated to improving the Santa Barbara community that he has called home since 1992.
